Going to the Zoo

We took Katelyn to the zoo for the first time over the weekend. She spent more time staring at all of the people then she did looking at the animals. She did enjoy the carousel as well as seeing the animals in the petting zoo, as long as they did not get too close. The goats tried to lick her hand and the donkey snorted at her. Both were causes for distress. However, the sheep got the most attention from her because, as I fed them the alfalfa pellets near her in order to get a couple of pictures, she thought I was feeding them her snacks. She proceeded to yell at them and push their heads away fairly forcefully. :)

After the zoo, we went to one of our favorite restaurants, the House of Prime Rib. It was there that Katelyn had what can only be described as the best meal of her life. Anything and everything we put in front of her, she gobbled down like there was no tomorrow. Food on Daddy's plate was much tastier than the food we offered her, too. She had sourdough bread, salad, mashed potatoes, creamed corn, prime rib, and a bit of corn bread with butter for dessert. Her face was coated in potato as she also insisted on feeding herself for the entire meal. :)

Moving Up in the World

Katelyn is moving up in the world, or at least trying to, one step at a time. She has discovered that she can go up stairs to chase the cats. They are less than impressed by this development but Katelyn could not be happier. She is getting more confident every day in her ability to explore her world on her own and this is a big step.

We sit right next to or right behind her as she makes her attempts and she has managed to get partially onto the second step so far. The cats sit about 7 steps up and stare at her disapprovingly as she makes her way toward them. She loves following them around the living room and has even caught up to them a couple of times when they are looking the other way. :)

10 Months update

At ten months, Katelyn is a very active and curious baby. She is now over 20 pounds and prefers to have regular food at all meals. She loves Turkey and Pistrami as well as fresh fruit. Sourdough bread is also still a favorite, as are crackers of all sorts.

She is crawling with great confidence at this point and can even stand on her own for extended periods of time once she has reached that position. She is now activly following the cats and trying to get to them as they move around. She also is no longer at all content to be in her exersaucer, which she used to love. She loves looking at magazines and ripping out the pictures.

On the Move

Katelyn has started moving around the house all by herself. This first began on Saturday evening, when she was playing with her blocks. She threw a couple out of reach and then figured out how to get over to them. :) Here she is going after the car keys. She was very proud of herself.

Her version of crawling is a bit unusual, using one foot and one knee along with both hands, but it is working very well for her. She seems like she wishes she could get up onto both feet, which she still prefers above all else. She pulls up on us all the time and is getting more confident pulling up on the furniture as well.

It is an amazing thing to see her explore in this new way. She is so pleased with herself and gets very frustrated if there is something just out of her reach or moved there so she can't get a hold of it. She managed to get herself under the computer desk and was very upset when she got pulled out.

9 Months Update

Katelyn has reached the 9 month point and is doing great!!! She has started pulling up and is working on mastering the idea of balance as opposed to falling on her bum. She still does not seem interested in crawling but definitely wants to be moving on her own. We expect she will be cruising along very soon. She is also very attached to Mommy. It is very hard for me to leave a room at this point if she is not coming along too.

She has gotten a clean bill of health from the doctor at her check up. She now weighs in at 19 pounds 10 ounces and is 29.75 inches tall. Lucky for her, no shots were required this time around, so it made for a much more pleasant visit. She also seems to be cutting more teeth. The top left two teeth are on the verge of erupting any day now. She has been chewing on everything she can get into her mouth, including the cat's tail. ;)

We have moved her bed into her own room now. We will be getting her new curtains this weekend and have started decorating. Will post pictures when we get it all done. =)
